Carib Warriors take North East Football Title

Paradise Investments Carib Warriors One left the Chilli Playing Field last Sunday evening in a festive mood after capturing the National Lotteries Authority North East Football League Senior Division title.{{more}}

But it took them to a nervy penalty shoot out to overcome home team Brownstown Most Wanted, 4-2.

Watched by a large crowd that ringed the playing field, the match ebbed and flowed, with most of the play concentrated in the middle of the park, as neither team gained any clear advantage.

The goal mouth action that came about brought about the momentary shouts of anxiety, but neither camp had any goal to celebrate.

The regulation time and two periods of extra time ended goalless, hence penalty kicks ensued.

Carib Warriors proved the more level headed and accurate as they netted their four from the spot, while Brownstown missed two.

Wild celebrations followed after referee John Hinds sounded his whistle, as the majority of supporters from the Sandy Bay area stormed the field mobbing their players in jubilation.

For their efforts, Carib Warriors collected the champion trophy as well as EC$1500, while Brownstown collected $1000. DESCO took the third spot and $500.

Brownstown’s Jamal Spring was adjudged the Player of the Final.

At the Presentation Ceremony which followed Sunday’s final, Carib Warriors’ Kemron Osment was named Most Valuable Player of the competition, and he walked away with a trophy and $100.

Ghetto Flames’ Akram Edwards was the Senior Division top goal scorer with 13 goals, with Cosmos Peters of Jar Plum Highlanders named as the Best Goal Keeper, and Ivan Clarke of Brownstown, the Best Defender.

SLR Future Stars was selected as the Most Disciplined Team.

The Under-16 Division which was won by DESCO saw the winning team’s Danito Glasgow named the Most Valuable Player among the teen players.

Romell Browne of Chill Youths with fourteen goals copped the Most Goals Award.

The 2010 League marked a return of Football action to the Chilli Playing Field, after being absent since 2007, as that facility underwent major refurbishment, including grassing and the placement of a perimeter fence.

Fifteen teams participated in the Senior Division and four in the Under-16, as the National Lotteries Authority pumped in $5000 in the venture. (RT)
