Table tennis gets workers’ attention

Two table tennis competitions conclude this Saturday evening at the AVESCO Club House in Arnos Vale.{{more}}

The event is being staged by the Executive of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association (SVGTTA).

The Managers’ Competition got going last Saturday afternoon, with Terrance Marksman, Dougal Byron-Cox, Walter Richards and Davon Cato making it through to the semi-final stage.

Marksman emerged from Group One by beating Ricky Wright 11-3, 11-2; Norris Stewart 11-2, 11-6, and Byron-Cox 11-9, 11-9.

Byron-Cox got past Stewart 11-1, 11-6; and Wright 11-6, 11-3.

In the other match in that group, Stewart defeated Wright 1-5, 11-9.

Group Two saw Walter Richards and Davon Cato coming out victorious.

Richards, last year’s losing finalist, beat Cato 11-9, 9-11, 11-3. He also defeated the lone female competitor, Camille Crichton 11-7, 11-8; Basil Alexander 11-13, 11-7, 11-4; Thornley Myers 11-4, 11-6; and Harvey Graham 11-5, 11-2.

Cato got to the next phase by defeating Graham 11-7, 11-9; Myers 11-3, 11-13, 11-5; and Alexander 11-7, 14-16, 13-11.

Recording consolation wins were Graham over Myers 11-4, 11-9; Crichton 11-9, 11-6; and Alexander 11-9, 11-13, 11-9.

Myers got past Crichton 11-3, 11-6 and Alexander’s lone win came at the expense of Crichton 11-8, 11-9.

A notable absentee from this year’s competition is last year’s winner Jeff Trotman.

The Firms’ competition is set for today, Tuesday, also at the AVESCO venue, with many of the players who participated in the Managers’ segment being featured.

Following Saturday’s Finals, the presentation of prizes will take place. (RT)
