5k road race part of Festival of Games

A 5 km Road Race was an integral part of last Sunday’s Festival of Games held under the auspices of the National Olympic Committee of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

The road race was run from the Arnos Vale Playing Field, up the Vigie Highway, on to the Fountain main road, then through the Villa/Fountain road, and back to the Arnos Vale Playing Field and culminated the all day activities.

The race also saw an Under-13 as well as a Veterans category.

Darrel Browne won the Under-13 male in 29 minutes 29.60 seconds. He was followed by Jaris Farrell in 32 minutes 15.72 seconds. Docking in third was Ronaldo George in 33 minutes -01.74 seconds.

Caswin Prince, who is into his 23rd year of road races here, won the veterans title in 21 minutes 18. 06 seconds. Second was Tyrone Creese in 27 minutes 57.30 seconds.

And it was the seasoned runners who shone in the other age categories.

Shamon Hooper made it four in a row in the Male Under-15. Hooper’s winning time was 22 minutes 31.48 seconds. Jamal Williams was second in 22 minutes 33.57 seconds and third Ryan John, who clocked 23 minutes 12.07 seconds.

Fulicia Creese copped another Female Under-15 title, with a winning run, done in 31 minutes 35.06 seconds. Tara Joseph trailed her in 34 minutes 11.02 seconds, and third was Chantel John in 35 minutes 02.17 seconds.

Topping the Male Under-19 was Ezra Samuel. He was the also the first to cross the finish line overall in 20 minutes 29.29 seconds. Second in the Male Under-19 was Caswell Lewis in 21 minutes 17.07.Josnell Ashton finished third in 21 minutes 49 .21 seconds.

Linda Mc Dowall upstaged Nadia Delpesche winning the Female Under-19. Mc Dowall clocked 26 minutes 58.33 seconds. Delpesche’s time was 28 minutes 29.52 seconds. Amicia Porter was third in a time of 29 minutes 01.59 seconds.

Dwight Baptiste clinched the Open Male segment in 20 minutes 45.25 seconds. Lawrence Arthur copped the second place in 22 minutes 15.26 seconds.

Winning the Open Female was Lisa Daniel in 24 minutes 29.96 seconds. Kericha Fraser was second in a time of 34 minutes 38.74 seconds.

Action resumes this Sunday as the Team Athletics road racing programme resumes with the Log Enterprises Rabacca to Byera Hill 5Km.(RT)
