NOC holds successful All Sports Programme

Last Sunday’s staging of the All Sports Programme, put on by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex, has been hailed a resounding success.{{more}}

Administrative Assistant of the NOC Nicha Branker told SEARCHLIGHT at the end of the day’s proceedings that her organisation was satisfied with the outcome.

“It was a great day,” she said.

Branker was high in praise for the national associations which made their presence felt.

Football Coach Wade Jackson of Layou, who brought his young footballers to the event, said “it was a day well spent.”

Jackson told SEARCHLIGHT that he had one regret. He said there should have been some scouts around to see some of the emerging talents.

The all-day affair involved several national sporting bodies involved in competition or demonstrations.

Football, which had the largest participation, staged a Five A Side Small Goal Competition featuring several of the communities in the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Youth Development Programme.

Ian Sardine, Co-ordinator of Sunday’s football segment, said that there was participation of about 120 footballers of both sexes, from age 8 to 16.

At the end of the fun-filled football competition, it was Kingstown East that was adjudged the winner, with Barrouallie taking the second place.

Cycling also played a major part in the day’s events as several races were run off.

In the Sprint Race 200 metres, Marlon Mc Intosh was first, Cammie Adams was second and third was Chad Culzac.

The Slow Man Race of 25 metres was won by Marlon Mc Intosh, second was Sherwin James and third, Zefal Bailey.

Sherwin James triumphed in the Longest Whillie and Cammie Adams was second.

There was an Old man Race of a 100 Metres Sprint which was taken by Rudi Daniel, with Arthur Medford second.

Chad Culzac won the 50 Meters BMX race, with Kevin Jack second.

The cycling segment was crowned with a Road Race from Arnos Vale to Ratho Mill and return, a distance of four miles. Cammie Adams was first to finish in 14 minutes, 46.18 seconds. Zefal Bailey came in second in 15 minutes, 29.81 seconds and Marlon Mc Intosh, third in 15 minutes, 42.02 seconds.

Team Athletics SVG held its Kids in Athletics as well as 5K road race, with other participation coming from Boxing, Tennis, Taekwondo, Rugby, among others.

There was also an information booth manned by members of the Sports Medicine Association and local officers of the Regional Anti- Doping Organisation (RADO) providing information on Drugs and Doping in Sports. (RT)
