Phillips wins gold in IFBB championship

Former Mr. St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Garwin Phillips, won the Gold Medal in the Men’s Bodybuilding Super Heavyweight Division at the 2010 IFBB Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships held in Aruba from September 22– September 26.

Phillip’s now competes for Bermuda where he has been employed as a police officer for the past five years, and also has the distinction of holding the prestigious 2010 Mr. Bermuda Bodybuilding Champion.

Phillips told SEARCHLIGHT that he also competed for the Mr. Central American and Caribbean Champ which would have allowed him to turn Pro if he had won, but was unsuccessful.

In 2006, Phillips placed fourth at the CAC bodybuilding championship held in Jamaica. When he competed in the games last year, he originally placed third, but was promoted to the first position after the two atheletes who had placed first and second had their titles revoked after testing positive for a banned substance.

A total of 23 countries participated at this year’s CAC champs in nine classes.

“Bodybuilding in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has set a tremendous platform for my career,” said Phillips.

He got involved in bodybuilding in 1995 when he started training at the Silvers Gym, Cane Garden.

From there he went on to represent St. Vincent and the Grenadines in several competitions and won the Mr. St.Vincent and the Grenadines title on seven occasions.
