Young cricketers in the Valley get training
The Neil Williams Academy hosted the Casper Davis Marriaqua Cricket Academy last Saturday, September 25, in an effort to further expose young cricketers in the Marriaqua Valley to the sport.{{more}}
It was all part of a series of Under-13 matches designed to develop both male and female cricketers between the ages of 9 and 19 years old.
The Marriaqua Academy is named after former St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards fast bowler, Casper Davis, who now resides in the USA.
Davis also lived in Mesopotamia in the Marriaqua Valley.
The Neil Williams Academy batted first and scored 134 for 4 off 20 overs. Enrico Culzac topscored with 24, and Vincent Cupid hit 18.
Nichlon John took 2 for 22 off his four overs and Alistair Shallow and Jordan Samuel took one wicket apiece.
When the Casper Davis Academy batted, they reached the target in the 14th over, posting 138 for 3. Junior Adams top scored with 53 not out and with captain Kimone Homer 12 not out to see their team home.
Adams was named Player of the Match.
The Casper Davis Academy is also part of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Programme. Davis is also a former employee of the department.
Davis is credited with spotting the early talent of Kenroy Peters, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards left arm medium fast bowler.
Peters, Kentish Jacobs are the coaches carrying out coaching duties at the Casper Davis Academy. Both are present employees of the department.
