Rivals make winning start

MVC Rivals, defending champions of the National Lotteries Neil Williams Twenty/20 Cricket competition, have made a wining start to the 2010 edition.{{more}}

Last Saturday at the Stubbs Playing Field, Rivals cruised to a 101 run win over Combined Youths in the competition which is being held under the aegis of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association.

Rivals batted first and scored 157 for 5, off their 20 overs. Nicholas Baptiste hit 49, Roland Wilkinson, 26, and Marvin Small, 24.

Combined Youths’ batting crumbled under the experience of Olanzo Jackson, 2 for 3, Cameron Cuffy, 2 for 5, and Deighton Butler, 2 for 12, dismissed for 56.

Also on Saturday, the 2007 and 2008 winners Victors One earned a 68 run triumph over North Leeward at the Petit Bordel Playing Field.

Shaquille Browne scored 38 and Lauron Francois 29, as Victors One posted 138.Winston Samuel was the pick of the North Leeward bowling with 4 for 37, Nelson Williams, 2 for 19, and Vanjel Small, 2 for 29.

North Leeward innings closed at 70. Elron Lewis was the topscorer with 30. Kenneth Dember inflicted some misery on his fellow North Leeward players, as he bagged 4 for 12, and Shaquille Browne, 2 for 18.

On Sunday, Victors Two earned a six wicket over Moses Douglas Radcliffe Two.

Kensley Joseph was the topscorer with 30, as Radcliffe Two reached 122 for 7 from their 20 overs. Jenry Ollivierre, 3 for 10, and Ray Jordon, 2 for 27, were the main wicket takers for Victors Two, who replied with 123 for 4.

Their response was led by Ronaldo Coombs with 30; Rodrigo Thomas, 25, and Lauron Baptiste, 25 not out. Marcus Castello took 2 for 24.

And OLA Boutique Radcliffe earned a narrow two wicket triumph over Owia Stars.

Salvan Browne knocked 23 and Neil Baptiste, 21, as Owia posted 97. Dyke Cato, 3 for 34, Dellorn Johnson, 2 for 6, and Mahlon John 2, for 12, shared the bowling honours for OLA Boutique Radcliffe, but their batsmen labored to 99 for 8. Rodney Lawrence made 29. Desron Lavia, 3 for 5, and Othneil Baptiste, 2 for 6, were Owia’s main wicket takers. (RT)
