Bikers ready for clash

Local cyclists will have their hands filled this weekend, as the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cycling Union stages two events this Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26, respectively.{{more}}

Saturday will see the Rupert “Putty” Minors Memorial Hill Climb Classic, which is set to start off at 4pm.

The Classic is in memory of Minors, a former national cyclist, and will ride off from the Mesopotamia Police Station to Belmont, a distance of three miles.

In recognition of Minors’ contribution to the sport, the trophies at stake are being sponsored by his relatives and friends.

The Classic is open to all cyclists with Mountain Bikes, BMX and Road Bikes.

Then, the following day, Sunday, a Keep Fit event targeting Road and Mountain Bikes will be held.

The race commences outside the Howard Marine in Calliaqua to Round About in Arnos Vale and back to Ratho Mill. In all, a distance of 25 miles, as the cyclists are required to make 6 laps of the course.

This race is a warm up to the Five Stage International Tobago Classic that is set for that same week in Tobago.

At this international outing, St Vincent and the Grenadines will be represented by a team of Seniors, Juniors and Masters cyclists. (RT)
