SVG finishes third in New York Netball
When the 13th edition of the Caribbean American Netball Association Tournament came to a close recently at the Lincoln Terrace Park in Brooklyn, New York, St. Vincent and the Grenadines had to settle for the third spot.{{more}}
This was the same position the Vincentians occupied at the end of last yearâs tournament.
Sponsored this year by LIME and Western Union, it was the Jamaicans, who during the closing ceremony, took home the Derrick Bernard Caribbean Cup one day tournament, and the titles for both Junior and Senior divisions.
In the closing Caribbean Cup match, St Vincent and the Grenadines, despite beating one of the better teams in the tournament, Grenada, could not repeat that feat when they faced Jamaica, one of the gurus in the tournament.
The Vincentians were disappointing and were defeated by Jamaica in their final match, 21 goals to 10.
The Vincentians were trailing by a mere three goals, as it was 9-6 in favour of Jamaica at the half way stage of the encounter.
Jamaica went on to win and retain the title, as Grenada placed second.
The most valuable players in the junior division all collected laptops computers, with Ronesha Pompey taking the top prize for the Vincentians.
Licinia Hinds, also of SVG, took the prize for the player striving for excellence. She collected a sports watch, while the Most Disciplined player for SVG was Aphesha Neverson who collected US$50.
Present at the Closing Ceremony was LIME Manager for New York Keith Keene-Douglas, and LIME Marketing Manager SVG Fitz Huggins. (RT)
