Vincy female  Volleyballers finish bottom of the pack


The Vincentian Female Volleyball team placed last among the eight teams competing in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) tournament,{{more}} which concluded in St. Lucia over the last weekend.

Grouped in Zone A, the Vincentians first round was played against St Kitts/ Nevis, Antigua/ Barbuda and French St Marten.

In their first match of the tournament, the Vincentians suffered a 3-0 loss to St. Kitts and Nevis, one of the perennial powerhouses of the ECVA. The scores were 25:17, 25:18, and 25:19.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines also lost 3-0 to Antigua and Barbuda; with set scores being 25-20, 25-15, 25-17.

The Vincentians turned a marginally better performance in their last match of the group stages, losing 3-1 to French St. Martin. French St. Martin won 25:22, 25:23, 24:26, and 26:24.

Playing for the seventh spot against Grenada, the Vincentians also went under 1-3.

The scores were 25:18, 25:15, 17:25, and 25:22. Again, they took the third set to extend the match.

Anguilla took the fifth spot in the final standings when they defeated French St. Martin 25:19, 25:23. 25:19.

Host St Lucia beat Antigua three sets to one for the third place position, while St. Kitts saw off Dominica 3-2, to take the top spot and tickets to the NORCECA Continental Championship.

The ECVA championship replaces the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Tournament.

Representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines were Suzanna Ollivierre (Captain), Junette Young, Bretisha Gregg, Brenda Joseph, Preanka Williams, Krystal Neverson, Nikita Campbell, Jenicer Davis, Andean Spring and Ankiah Forbes. Nicole Ross was the team’s coach.(RT)
