The Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy will this weekend host junior Table Tennis players from Barbados and Grenada in a friendly competition.{{more}}

Determined to carry the sport forward, despite its dormancy, Stanley told SEARCHLIGHT that it was high time that many of the players here get some regional exposure.

Stanley also stated that the competition will serve the local lads well, as it will gauge their abilities against others within the region.

A five-member contingent will represent Barbados. They include Mario Haynes, Xavier Duncan, Romario Mc Clean, Rashad King and Under-10 player Steven Payne. The team’s Coach is Clifton Mark.

Stanley disclosed that former Caribbean champion Trevor Farley, of Barbados, will be guest of the Academy during these matches.

Top local player Kavier Gaymes is expected to lead the charge for the local lads.

Stanley disclosed that the visitors are responsible for their own air fare, with the academy through sponsorship for the local corporate sector, footing the bill for local accommodation and transportation.

He was high in praise for those who contributed to the cause, in an unselfish manner, despite the financial squeeze that is hitting several businesses here.

Stanley said that the best way to pay homage to those who are making the friendly competition a reality is for there to be a display of some top class Table Tennis for the three days.

The competition starts today, Friday, May 28, from 6:00pm, with an official opening ceremony at the Old Kingstown Anglican School Annex.

It runs until Sunday afternoon. (RT)
