Vincentian outfit Middlesex made a winning start to the 2010 Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) when they beat Shaheen by one wicket in a high scoring affair at Marine Park D.{{more}}

Shaheen batted first and totalled 205 all out from 37 overs. Owais Butt, 48, and Imtiaz Ahmed, 39.

Bowling for Middlesex, Treldon Mc Millan took 3 for 21, Darren Dennis 2 for 2, and Dominic Audain, 2 for 38.

Chasing 205 for victory, at times it seemed an uphill task for Middlesex, at one stage was 34 for 4, and 90 for 6, but thanks to some fine batting from former West Indies player Adam Sanford who made 61, which included five fours and a six, and Mark Audain’s 33, Dominic Audain’s 32, Sherwin Lyttle’s 20 and Rod Michael’s 17 not out added to Middlesex’s total, allowing them to reach 206 for 9 from 33 overs.

While Middlesex came out on top, Cavaliers, another Vincentian team, in a reduced over match due to late start was unable to reach the 219 runs target set by Panthers. They lost their game by 25 runs.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the action is again at MPK, with Cavaliers taking on Carriacou at MPK B and Queenbury a new outfit with Vincy connection will face Shaheen.

Come Sunday, May 16, it’s the first all Vincy clash with 2009 regular season champs Caribbean Imperial up against Middlesex at MPK C. Games are set to bowl off at 12:30pm. (RT)
