Brooklyn Cricket League bowls off in earnest tomorrow

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 8, the 2010, Brooklyn Cricket League (BCL) gets into full swing, following its opening last weekend, which saw the presentation of awards and prizes for the 2009 winners and top contenders, along with a game between a President XI and 2009 league Champs Imperial.{{more}} Donwell Hector topped the batting with 769 runs, including three centuries. Another Vincentian, Byron Mars, captured the Most Wickets, 38, and had the Best Bowling Average, 11.84. Andy Douglas recorded the Best Bowling in a game, 7 for 26.

This Saturday at 12:30 pm, Cavaliers faces Panthers at Marine Park (MPK)C, while Middlesex meets Shaheen at MPK D, all in their first game.

This year, one of the Vincy outfits, Stars United Cricket Club, is no more. It has been replaced by Queensbury, which like Stars is made up mainly of Vincentians.

In the opening game at MPK last Sunday, the President XI won the game by two runs. Imperial made 139 for 7 in 25 overs. Foster Lewis, 44 not out, Andy Douglas, 20, Greg Dublin, 17 not out, and Norrel Robinson, 16.

In reply, the President XI, 141 for 9 in 24.2 overs, Mark Audain made 30.

Also last Saturday, a team from the Brooklyn League was part of the Mayor’s Cup. They played the American League.

Brooklyn League won the game and will now move on to semi-finals where they will face NYC Parks Department on Saturday, May 15.

In that match the Brooklyn League scored 175 for 8 off 20, while the American League replied with only 111 all out in 18.4 overs.
