Vincentians dominate OECS Junior Squash Championships
As expected, host St. Vincent and the Grenadines dominated the tenth edition of the Western Union/ Bickles OECS Junior Squash Championships which ended last Saturday evening at the National Squash Center at Paulâs Avenue.{{more}}
Featuring the largest contingent of the four competing islands, the host copped six of the seven singles titles which were up for grabs in the three-day championships.
Winning the developmental Boys Under-11 was Alex Cyrus, with the Girls Under-13 taken by Demi Ollivierre.
Winning the Boys Under-13 was Jason Doyle. Giana Miler-Alexander carried on the Vincentian reign with the Girls Under-15 title. Kevin Hannaway wrapped up both the Boys Under-17 and Under-19 titles.
The only age title that did not come the Vincentian way was the Boys Under-15, which was won by Stefan Joseph of the British Virgin Islands.
It was all Vincentian sweep in the Boys Under-11, as Kai Bentick was second, and third was Rashid Constance.
Trailing Ollivierre were Abiyomi Maddox of the BVI and Deiriai Myers of the host country in that order. Second to Doyle was Neville Smith of the BVI and third was Sebastian Cyrus of SVG.
Ollivierre was third in the Girls Under-15 behind Erika Sorrentino, of the BVI. Rory Thorton of the BVI was second in the Boys Under-15, with Doyle, third.
Joseph docked in second in the Boys Under-17, and Vincentian Romario Constance was third.
Jules Snagg of the host, finished second in the Under-19, and Joseph picked up the third position.
Miller Alexander was adjudged the Most Improved Player and the BVIâs Erin Anderson was named the player who displayed the Best Sportsmanship.
Also participating in the championships were St. Lucia, which had a lone entrant and Dominica with six players.
Ollivierre, Miller-Alexander, Hannaway, Doyle, Snagg and Romario Constance all made the OECS team to this yearâs Junior Caribbean championships set for the Cayman Islands in July.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines will host the Caribbean Senior championships in August.(RT)
