No Vincentian in Under-19 major Cricket Awards

Vincentians were not among the recipients of the major awards in the 2010 Windward Islands Power Companies Windwards Cricket Under-19 Tournament when the closing and presentation ceremony took place last week Wednesday evening at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.{{more}}

It was St. Lucian Audy Alexander who scooped up the top individual award as he was named the Most Valuable Player. Alexander, who missed his team’s first match in the two-day competition, against host St. Vincent and the Grenadines, recorded the best batting average, 73.5, and was also his team’s Most Valuable Player.

But it was Kaveem Hodge of Dominica who copped the most awards. Hodge had the most wickets in the two day competition:14; was the highest individual scorer: 95, which he recorded against Grenada, and notched up the highest aggregate:192. Hodge was the obvious choice for his team’s MVP. For good measure, he added the most runs in the One Day competition, 77, to his bounty of awards.

Junior Alfred of double crowned champions, St. Lucia, with six catches and three stumpings, had the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper.

Grenada’s Jennard Paul had the most wickets in a match. Paul had match figures of 8 for 43, against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and had the best bowling average 9.66 per runs wicket. Bronte Bess of St. Lucia took the most wickets in the One day competition, 7.

The other team MVP’s were Denis Smith for Grenada, and Sunil Ambris of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Ambris was nipped by Hodge for the most runs award, in the two-day format. Ambris totalled 190.

Addressing last Wednesday’s event were Senator Ces Mc Kie, CEO of Vinlec Thornley Myers, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Julian Jack, and Elson Crick, Vice President of the Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control.(RT)
