Mason, who crossed the finish line at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in the Cayman Islands in 1 minute 54.66 seconds, is the son of Vincentian Joanne Miller-Mason and her husband, Barbadian Wendell Mason.

Jerrad, who is a fourth former at Harrison College in Barbados, is the grandson of Adolphus and Janice Miller of Kingstown Park.

While a student at the Girls’ High School, Joanne was an athlete and captain of Staff House.

The last time a Barbadian won this event at the CARIFTA games was in 1985.
