Cricket lovers bowl up Blackberries

Being able to accurately bowl a cricket ball has earned Taxi Driver Lennox ‘Luck’ John and Coast Guard Officer Brenton Cain Digicel Blackberry handsets.{{more}}

The two won the telecommunications devices last week as part of a Digicel’s ‘lunch time break’ one day international cricket promotion dubbed ‘Rep Your Stand’. Digicel was the sponsor of the three One Day International cricket matches played at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex on Wednesday, March 10, Friday 14, and Sunday 16. The matches were played by the West Indies and Zimbabwe. In order to get a chance to bowl, persons were requested to text their ticket number and name of the stand in which they were sitting to 4336465.

During the lunchtime break on Wednesday, John, along with four other participants, was asked to bowl a cricket ball and knock over two cricket stumps. The first person to successfully hit the stumps (John) was given the Blackberry Storm.

John who pranced up and down after knocking over the stumps thanked Digicel for the Blackberry, “I don’t really play cricket but I’m happy to have won this phone,” he said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Cain was the first person to knock over the stumps from a group of five persons.

“I feel very elated because this is the first thing I have ever won in my life,” said Cain who added that he was a fast bowler for the Barrouallie Government School during his school days.

The bowling was witnessed by Marketing Manager at Digicel Juno DeRoche and West Indies Cricket official Lance Gibbs.

Wednesday’s participants were Courtney Joyette, Suruj Persaud, Alvina King and Richard Dover, while Sunday’s participants were Junior Sam, Monica Findlay, Syldia Parris and Nigel Antrobus.
