Georgetown Secondary turns the tables

After losing to the St. Vincent Grammar School in last year’s Finals, the Georgetown Secondary is once again the champion of the United Insurance Secondary Schools’ Cricket tournament.{{more}}

The St. Vincent Grammar School was trying to make it two in a row, but the Georgetown Secondary, which last won in 2007, proved to be the better equipped outfit last Monday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Seasoned RBTT premier Division players Marvin Small and Ray Jordon led Georgetown’s batting with 38 and 31, respectively, with Wesley Williams knocking in 29. But it was the Extras which amounted to 47 that pushed them to 178 for 9 off the allotted 40 overs.

Kadier Nedd was the pick of the Grammar School’s bowling with 5 for 22.

In reply, the Grammar School folded for a paltry 73, to lose by a whopping 106 runs. Only Nedd with 11 got into double digits, while Extras topscored with 22.

The Harpers, Andy and Anthony, collected 3 for 8 and 3 for 12, respectively, with Anthony later named Man of the Match.

But most of the individual batting awards went to Kevin Quashie of the Buccament Bay Secondary. Quashie emerged from the preliminary round of competition with the Highest Individual Score: 127 not out. He also had the Best Batting Average, 79.5 runs per innings. He also walked away with the Best All Rounder award.

Romano Bailey of the Thomas Saunders Secondary captured the Most Wickets, 15, and Raphael Pope of the North Union Secondary, who scored 181, the Most Runs.

Another student of the North Union Secondary, Rodrigo Dalzell, was in the limelight, as he received the Best Bowling figures award, for his 7 for 30.

Zone winners were also rewarded: North Union won Zone A, the Thomas Saunders Secondary triumphed in Zone B, with Zone C winners being the West St. George and coming out tops from Zone D, the Troumaca Ontario Secondary.(RT)
