Lawrence hits a ton in zonal U-19 cricket

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-19 player Rodney Lawrence slammed 110 to power Central Leeward to a commanding 133 run win over North Windward last Sunday as the 2010 Zonal Under-19 Cricket Competition continued.{{more}}

The competition had bowled off the day before, on Saturday, January 16.

Also a former Windwards Under-17 selectee, Lawrence’s innings was decorated with nine boundaries and eight sixes. Asif Hooper was the next best with the bat. He hit 37 and Deron Greaves made 31.

Dansworth Nero was North Windward’s lead bowler with 4 for 35. Ray Jordan and Omar Lorraine took 2 for 56 and 2 for 61, respectively.

Jordan then hit 48, Akeem Roberts, 24, and Phillip Baptiste, 24, as North Windward slipped to 160 all out.

Lawrence grabbed 3 for 21 and Richard Williams, 2 for 31, to lead their team to victory.

North Windward on Saturday also lost to Marriaqua by seven wickets.

Batting first, North Windwards reached 100 all out off 15 overs, with Jordan making 47 and Denson Hoyte, 29. Taking the wickets for Marriaqua were Malden Scrubb, 3 for 21, Javid Harry, 2 for 13, Troy John, 2 for 18 and Kevin Glasgow, 2 for 34.

Marriaqua needed just 14.2 overs to reach 102 for 3. Sunil Ambris topscored with 61 not out.

Also losing their two matches on the weekend was South Central Leeward.

On Saturday, they lost to St. George and to North Leeward on Sunday.

Atticus Browne was St. George’s architect with a topscore of 35 in his team’s total of 146 made off 21 overs. He then bagged 4 for 13 as South Central Leeward was knocked over for 100 in 18.4 overs.

Kenlon Davis supported Browne with 33, when St. George batted. Jovan Lynch was South Central Leeward’s main wicket taker with 4 for 41.

In South Central Leeward (SCL) unsuccessful run chase, Triston Browne took 2 for 15 and Kimani Thomas had figures of 2 for 35.

But the following day was a disaster for SCL, as they could only muster 33. The chief destroyer of their innings was Emron Lewis, 5 for 13. Vanjel Small, 2 for 14, and Zimron Providence, 2 for 1, as North Leeward romped to 34 for 2, and an emphatic eight wicket triumph.

Matches for this weekend are as follows.

On Saturday, at the London Playing Field, North Windward plays South Windward, while at the North Union Playing Field, Marriaqua faces off with Central Windward. At the Sion Hill Playing Field, also on Saturday, St. George takes on North Leeward, with South Central Leeward meeting Kingstown at Buccament Bay.

Then on Sunday, Kingstown plays North Leeward at Sion Hill and at North Union South Windward engages South Windward.

Matches are set to begin at 10 am each day. (RT)
