Sion Hill Inter Village Football hits fever pitch this weekend

The last preliminary match in the Sion Hill Inter-Village Football Competition will be played this Sunday afternoon at the Sion Hill Plying Field, and pits the two high-flying teams, Walvaroo One and Top Roseau.{{more}}

Walvaroo One, one of the competition’s favourites suffered a hiccup and registered their first loss last Tuesday, when they went under to Village 0-2.

A goal either side of the half by Raphael Philips gave Village the win and the much-needed three points and a lifeline as they enhanced their chances of a semifinal berth.

However, last year’s winners, Rose Valley Enterprises Hans King Bottom Roseau, after scoring a hard fought 2-1 win over Top Roseau on Sunday, inexplicably suffered a 1-4 defeat to the less fancied Walvaroo Two on Wednesday.

Two penalties registered by Dillon Richards and a goal apiece from Dwight Pierre and Jomo Richardson gave Walvaroo Two the unlikely win.

Bottom Roseau’s goal was a spectacular right-footed shot from about 35 yards out, from the boot of Mark Garrick.

Top Roseau was set to meet Mala Village in yesterday’s penultimate match, but crucial to both, as they sought further advancement in the competition.

Following this Sunday’s match, the other three semifinalists will be known, as goal difference will be a major player. Walvaroo One is a certainty in the last four.
