NSC wins Rotary South Firms softball Cricket

The National Sports Council will once again raise the Championship Trophy at the Presentation ceremony hosted by the Rotary Club of St. Vincent South. They earned this privilege when they defeated LIME in the Finals of the Rotary South Firms Soft Ball Independence Cricket Festival 2009 held at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex last Saturday.{{more}}

The Council first defeated ECGC in the play-offs to take the final qualifying spot in the Quarter Final after the major scare of losing to Caribbean Glass & Aluminum Products Ltd in the first play-off game. That loss then motivated them to defeat Vinlec in the Quarter Final and St. Vincent Port Authority in the Semi-final before humbling the rampant LIME in the Final.

LIME batted first and made 62 for 5 in the allotted 8 overs per innings. Leslie Jack top scored with 23 not out, and Orlando Porter made 12. The National Sports Council only needed 6.4 overs to romp home to victory and claim their second consecutive title when they reached 64 for 3. The evergreen Lance John top scored with 16 not out. Prior to having to lick their wounds in the Final, LIME had played unbeaten in the preliminaries and defeated S. G. DeFreitas in the Quarter Final and Caribbean Glass Aluminum Products Ltd in the Semi-Final.

The Presentation of Awards in the Rotary South-organized, Digicel-sponsored event will take place at a venue to be announced during the week.

This year’s Tournament was dedicated to the Nation as it celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Independence.
