Sion Hill Netball Competition on the Go!

The C& R Enterprises Sion Hill Netball competition opened last Sunday at the Sion Hill Playing Field Hard Court, with nine of the fourteen registered teams participating in the March Past and Official Opening Ceremony.{{more}}

The start of the competition, scheduled for 4:30 pm, never materialised until about thirty-five minutes after.

This was not pleasing to the speakers who mounted the podium, as they all chided the participating teams and officials alike for their tardiness.

Addressing the issue were President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association, Doris Mc Intosh, Area Representative Arnhim Eustace, as well as Julian Small, who stood in for Director of Physical Education and Sports Nelson Hillocks.

Small, too, called on the organisers to broaden the competition to be an all inclusive East Kingstown affair.

Meanwhile, Eustace implored the netballers to tool themselves with being punctual, as it is a form of discipline for life.

He, as he has done in previous years, is offering cash awards for the Most Disciplined Team and Most Disciplined Player.

Managing Director of C& R Enterprises, Cleve Lewis, added a hamper to the bounty of the team winning the competitions, as added incentives.

In the adjudication of the awards, it was Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem who walked away with the Best Dressed and Best Banner Awards, as no one came close to matching theirs.

Meeting the criteria for judging, it was Yanja Young Strugglers and ASCO One who placed second, in that order, in both areas of adjudication.

In the feature match which followed, Young Strugglers beat Stingers Girls 32 to 27 to take the Sylvia Knights- Clarke trophy.

Things were even at seven at the end of the first quarter, with Young Strugglers taking the second 15-14.

The score at the end of the third quarter was 24-20, in favour of Young Strugglers.

Eight teams are registered in Division One and six are competing in Division Two.

Apart from the league competitions, there will be the Knock Out Competitions in both divisions. (RT)
