They did so last Sunday in nail-biting fashion, beating Punjab in the final, but by just two wickets.

Punjab batted first and posted 125 all out in 29 overs. Their innings was led by a topscore of 34 from Quasim Javid.

Byron Mars led the bowling attack for Imperial with 5 for 20; Colville Browne snared 2 for 26, Andy Douglas, 2 for 34, and Orient Bostic, 1 for 28.

In reply, Imperial reached 126 for 8 off 32 overs. Foster Lewis made 32; Everad Ollivierre scored 30, with Marks Lawrence making 17 not out and Browne, 16, as Imperial went one better than Punjab after they had to settle for second spot after the preliminary round of matches. Zafar Khan took 3 for 32, and Adnan Nasim, 2 for 26.

Imperial, who in 2008 copped the knock out title, made sure they put their hand on a piece of silverware after failing to retain the knock out.

Imperial lost their semi final bid at the knockout championship in their match against Panthers the previous weekend.

Panthers went on to win that championship, beating Grenada in the Final also last Sunday in the double header played at Marine Park in Avenue U.

The Finals brought an end to the 2009 edition of the BCL.

The three other Vincentian oriented teams that played in the BCL were Cavaliers, Middlesex and Stars United.(RT)
