Following a brief opening ceremony last Saturday afternoon, which heard remarks from Cecil Charles of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association, and Anthony Dennie of the NLA, North Leeward and Eat Rite Saints, got the actual proceedings on the field going.

North Leeward posted 86 off 16 overs. Sheldon Hooper topped the batting with 40 and Otis Matthews made 24.

Kentish Jacobs took 3 for 7, Walford Ambris, 3 for 18, and Kenroy Peters, 2 for 11, bowling for Saints.

The redeemed Felix Greaves led Eat Rite Saints’ reply with 29, as they laboured to 89 for 6. Ronnique Laborde had figures of 2 for 17, bowling for North Leeward.

But, Bequia Combine had one win and one loss in back to back games on Sunday.

Bequia was dismissed for 110. Cosmus Hackshaw made 28. Nixon Mc Lean, 3 for 8, Kissinger Mc Lean, 2 for 9, and Micah Joseph, 2 for 18, were the main wicket-takers for the News Spartans.

Darnley Grant struck 24 not out and Krishna Da Silva, 21, as Spartans rallied to 116 for 4.

In their afternoon fixture, Bequia posted 140 for 9 off their 20 overs.

Omarl Lavia was the main contributor with the bat as he scored 27, and Razine Browne hit 20. Owia Stars conceded 32 extras to help Bequia’s cause. Othneil Baptiste claimed 2 for 12 and Braxie Browne, 2 for 13, bowling for first timers in the competition, Owia Stars.

But they were strangled to 88 for 9 off their 20 overs in pursuit of Bequia’s total.

Baptiste was again in the thick of things, scoring 40 not out. Dwayne Nanton made 20. Alan Foyle was Bequia‘s top bowler with 3 for 22.

The competition continues this weekend. Thirteen other teams are trying to wrest the title from Victors One. (RT)
