Women’s Cricket off and playing

The Senior Women’s Cricket Competition got started last weekend with two matches.

It was the beginning of a new era in the Cricket here, as it was the first time that the female competition was being staged under the aegis of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association.{{more}}

It was also a good start for the 2008 winners, United Survivors, as they whipped Super Strikers by 121 runs at the Buccament Bay Playing Field on Saturday. United Survivors took advantage of Super Strikers only fielding nine players and scored 185 for 9 off 36 overs.

Samantha Lynch lashed 69, Hazel-Ann Foster, 26, and Phyllis Williams made 21 not out. Jacqueline Davis took 3 for 40, and Francelia Mascoll, 2 for 38, bowling for Super Strikers. In response, Super Strikers, 64 off 15.4 overs, Alvina King, 14, Camille Garrick, 4 for 14, and Samantha Lynch, 3 for 27.

In the other fixture, JG’s Tigress defeated Garifuna Stars by three wickets at London Playing Field, as the Competition shifted to North Windward on Sunday. The home side, Garifuna Stars, posted 97 off 24.2 overs. Cordelia Williams hit 29, and Teresha Lavia, 19. Rochelle John bagged 6 for 15, Ashka Haynes, 2 for 10, and Melissa Billingy 2 for 16.

JG’s Tigress responded with 98 for 7 off 21.2 overs. Veteran player Jean Blucher topscored with 45. Lavia, 3 for 29, and Williams, 2 for 30, were the main wicket takers for the host.(RT)
