Shaquille Browne, a third form student, has made many significant strides in his cricket career. At the tender age of four years, his love for the sport began; and this love was nurtured by his uncle and coach Luke Browne.

The 14-year-old was chosen as a fast bowler on the Windward Islands under-15 Cricket team and has been chosen to be a part of the under-15 West Indies Cricket team. This humble youngster, balances sport and academics well, since he places consistently in the top five positions in his class.

Former Pakistani fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are two cricket icons whom he admires. His dreams are to one day be a fast bowler on the West Indies Senior team and become the fastest bowler by beating Shoaib Akhtar’s record of 100 miles per hour.

In addition, the support of family, other colleagues in the sport and his firm belief in God, have also helped to shape and mould him into the talented youngster that he is today. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” is the ideology which guides his success.

Kevin Hannaway is another outstanding student at Thomas Saunders Secondary School. He is a 15-year-old third form student, whose love for the sport of Squash began in 2005. Since then he has accomplished many accolades in this sport.

Kevin played several sports before attempting Squash, which he soon discovered that he was very good at. He was able to develop his skills through the unwavering support of his coach, James Bentick , his mother, friends and colleagues. The 2009 Sportsman and Sports Personality of the Year, confesses that he keeps his life balanced through strict timetabling.

His motto, “Hard work brings success”, has helped him to maintain his rank among the top ten students in his class. Kevin explained that his involvement in Squash has helped him to be more focused and disciplined in his academics.

Proving that he is indeed an all-rounder, Kevin is a member of the executive of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School Student Council and has represented his school twice at the National Inter-School Sports.

Amr Sabana and Pete Nicol are two International Squash stars who Kevin emulates. Wishing to follow in their footsteps, he revealed that two of his future goals are to participate and do well at the Commonwealth Games and possible coach the National Squash Team.

When asked about how he felt on receiving his most recent accolades, Kevin wished not to elaborate on his response of, “Great!” He, however, stressed the importance of being humble despite having attained success, demonstrating, what an exemplary youngster he is.

The staff and students of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School congratulate Shaquille and Kevin on their success and pledge to support them in their future endeavours.
