National Sports Awards set for Saturday

The nation of St.Vincent and the Grenadines will recognize its outstanding athletes, sportspersons and associations, at a function slated for the Media Centre of the Arnos Vale Complex, on Saturday, April 18th, 2009.{{more}}

It’s the 2008 National Sports Awards, which will be held under the patronage of the Governor General, Sir Frederick Ballantyne.

The event will begin at 7.30pm.

Awards will be presented to the male and female junior sportsperson of the year, the male and female senior sportsperson of the year, the coach of the year, the association of the year and the sports personality of the year.

The distinguish Vincentian jurist, the Honourable Justice Adrian Saunders of the Caribbean Court of Justice, will be the feature speaker at the event.

Other addresses will come from the Minister of Sports, Mike Browne, the Chairman of the National Sports Council, Carlton James, and the Chairman of the National Lottery Authority, Murray Bullock.

The event is being sponsored by the National Lotteries Authority.

Already the National Sports Council, the body responsible for the awards, has announced plans to make major changes to the event for 2009.

The NSC has expressed disappointment with the number and quality of submissions received from national associations, in respect of the performances of their athletes.
