At the 2009 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships February 20 and 21, at the Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU), Shallow threw 19.87 meters in the Shot Putt to establish a new national record.

He was named the SLC’s Outstanding Field Athlete and Newcomer of the Year.

Shallow, who moved from Central Arizona College this year, got off to a fast start at the League meet as he shattered the school and Southland Conference records in the weight throw on the first day of competition.

Shallow returned on the second day to score six more critical points for the Lion’s cause, with an All-Southland Conference performance in the shot put. Shallow recorded a toss of 55 feet 2.75 inches in the Shot Put to finish third and secure his second All-SLC finish of the meet.

Shallow led the Lions to their best ever finish at the SLC Indoor Championships by accumulating 16 of South Eastern’s third place total of 81.5 points in just two events.

Last weekend, Saturday, March 14, he also broke and set the national record for the Hammer Throw at a meet, where he threw 60.62 metres and is his school’s new record holder for the event.

He is slated to be in action again this weekend when he competes in the Discus event.

At his new college, Shallow is seen as an inspiration to the other members of his team, often pushing them to do better, and has exceeded the expectations of his Coach Sean Brady, who said that Shallow has made a significant impact on their programme in many ways.

Shallow established the national Shot Putt and Discus records at the 2004 Central American and Caribbean Junior Games when he threw 16.55m and 45.1m, respectively.

He captured, then, a silver medal in the Shot Putt and a bronze in the Discus.

This performance earned him the 2004 Junior Sportsman award at the National Sports Awards Ceremony.

While at Central Arizona College, Shallow was named the 2007 Junior College Field Athlete of the Year by placing first place in the Shot Putt and Discus, with throws of 16.38m and 53.03m, in that order.

Shallow flung a best of 50.91m to take third spot and a bronze medal at the North and Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Track and Field meet at an altitude of 8800m, in Toluca, Mexico, in July last year.

Shallow placed second in the Shot Putt at the NACAC Open Championships in El Salvador in July of the previous year.

His major international exposures were at the IAAF World Junior Championships in 2003 and the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.

A former Dr. JP Eustace Memorial student, Shallow was voted as Team Athletics SVG’s 2007 Athlete of the Year.
