Windwards stall against Jamaica

The Windwards remain on 36 points going into this weekend’s match against Guyana, but hoping to repeat their first round convincing win over the hosts.{{more}}

The Windwards made 261 all out versus Jamaica on day one of their seventh round match of the WICB Regional four day match at the Windsor Park in Dominica last week Thursday.

Good scores came from Andre Fletcher, 61, Kevin James, 55, and debutant opening batsman, Keddy Lesporis, 50. Odean Browne took 6 for 85, Lambert, 2 for 22, and Nikita Miller, 2 for 45.

Captain Tamar Lambert hit 92, Donavon Pagon, 81, Wavell Hinds, 53, Brenton Parchment, 44, as the Jamaicans responded with 408, a healthy lead of 147. Shane Shillingford was again the Windwards lead bowler, as he captured 5 for 90. Darren Sammy took 3 for 98, and Nellon Pascal took 2 for 72.

The Windwards, after being 73 without loss, fell like a deck of cards for 134. They were routed by Brown, 5 for 27, and Miller, 3 for 39. Johnson Charles topscored with 38.

This weekend, Jamaica, playing at home at Sabina Park, will try to push their tally beyond 60 points when they face the Leewards.

The Leewards are smarting from a 111 run triumph over the Combined Campuses and Colleges.

The Leewards took first strike and scored 275. Montcin Hodge scored 65, Omari Banks hit 47, Tonito Willett made 45, and Lindon Cornwall, 44. Ryan Austin was the star with the ball, as he took 5 for 75, and Kavesh Kantasighn had 4 for 93.

The CCC replied with 190. Their topscorer was Simon Jackson with 71. Lionel Baker took 4 for 47 and Anthony Martins, 3 for 30.The Leewards in the hunt for maximum points declared at 247 for 7. Willett, following up his first innings success, stuck 77, Banks, 66 not out, and Hodge, 47. Austin, this time, took 3 for 48.

Chasing an improbable 328, the CCC stopped at 216. Former West Indies and Barbados player Floyd Reifer hit 101. Gavin Tonge took 4 for 56 and Baker, 2 for 34.

Meanwhile, Guyana earned a draw against Trinidad and Tobago.

Prolific batsman Lendl Simmons stroked 167. Keiron Pollard hit 94. Gibron Mohammed, 53 not out, Darren Ganga, 50, and Samuel Badree, 44, all chipped in to see Trinidad and Tobago to 530 for 8 declared. Davendra Bishoo, 3 for 114, Trevon Garraway, 3 for 116, were Guyana’s most successful bowlers.

Discarded West Indies middle order batsman Narsighn Deonarine made 143. Other good scores came from Chris Barnwell, 56, Assad Fudadin, 40, Davendra Bishoo, 39, and Royston Crandon, 35, as Guyana completed their reply with 402. Imran Khan, 4 for 92, and Amit Jaggernauth, 3 for 97, were T and T’s main wicket takers.

Trinidad and Tobago declared their second innings at 178 for 8, leaving Guyana to make 307 to win. Captain Daren Ganga topscored with 43, and Pollard 34. Esaun Crandon, 3 for 31, and Steven Jacobs, 3 for 32.

Guyana held on to be 133 for four at the close. Royston Crandon was 55 not out, and Barnwell had made 41.

Also this weekend, Trinidad and Tobago meets arch rival Barbados at the Guaracara Park in Trinidad and Tobago. (RT)
