After battling the equally competitive strength of the St. Josephâs Convent Marriaqua, the Dr. J. P. Eustace Memorial Secondary School emerged on top, taking home the trophy as winners of the Vita Malt Secondary Schoolsâ Senior Netball Tournament.{{more}}
The Finals, which took place on Friday, February 13, at the Kingstown Netball Court, saw matches between Junior Division teams Barrouallie Secondary School and Troumaca Ontario Secondary School, and Senior Division teams, St. Josephâs Convent Marriaqua and the Dr. JP Eustace Memorial.
Barrouallie Secondary won the Junior Division, with a 33-25 beating of Troumaca Ontario. Senior Division team Dr. J.P Eustace was triumphant over SJCM by ten points, scoring 36 to 26.
Several awards were handed out to the teams, including awards for Most Disciplined team, Most Goals scored in the matches, Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Elford Charles, Education Officer/Physical Education & Sports, thanked the parents for their tremendous support in allowing the girls to be involved in the sport, âWithout your support this would not have happened,â he said.
Also congratulating the teams, Minister of Sports Mike Browne commended the girls on the manner in which they played and encouraged them to continue to âplay to win in an honest and transparent wayâ.
The Netball team for this yearâs Windward Islands Games was also announced. The Games, to be hosted by St. Vincent and the Grenadines, will be held in July.
