Schools’ Cricket nearing quarter finals

Four Quarter Finalists have emerged thus far in the United Insurance Secondary Schools’ Cricket Competition.

The Campden Park Secondary, the St. Vincent Grammar School, the Emmanuel High Mespo, and the Troumaca Secondary have booked their places to the next phase.{{more}}

The St. Vincent Grammar School formalised their passage with a win over the West St. George Secondary last Wednesday.

The Grammar School made 166, of which Curtley Springer hit 33. Nicholas Holder took 4 for 40.

West St. George, in reply, made 151. Omani Cordice topscored with 27, while Devon Charles took 4 for 19. On the other hand, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-15 player, Kadier Nedd, took 3 for 33, bowling for the Grammar School.

Last Tuesday, Emmanuel Mespo also ensured their berth. Emmanuel Mespo was shot out for 75, with National Under-19 Player Atticus Browne topscoring with 38.

Jamal Pierre, bowling for St. Martin’s, took 5 for 14. When he took to the crease with the bat, he was dismissed for a mere 27. Browne took charge with 7 for 10, when it was his turn with the ball.

The budding left handed batsman, who earned a place on the Windwards Under-17 team in the inaugural West Indies Competition, last December, earlier in the current schools’ competition, established a record when he hit 185 against the Bishop’s College Kingstown .

Another quarter finalist, Campden Park Secondary, reached 135. David Murray took 4 for 11, while Doyle Mc Allister took 3 for 28.

Petit Bordel was shot out for 56. Ray Charles took his tally of wickets to 20, with 4 for 19, Morrison Matthews 3 for 1, and Gadbert Boyce 3 for 36.

Also on Monday, St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua edged out the Intermediate High School. The Marriaqua institution batted first and posted 193. Ramesh Mc Lean hit 49, while Deone Alexander took 6 for 53. Intermediate High responded with 162. Cuthbert Ashton made 43, while Kineke Allen bagged 5 for 47.(RT)
