Secondary Schools’ Netball jumps off

The young women competing in the Vita Malt Secondary Schools Netball Tournament will not only be attempting to do their school proud by winning the 16th edition of the competition, but will also be vying for a place in this country’s squad for the Inter secondary school sports meet, scheduled to take place here later this year.{{more}}

17 secondary schools are taking part in the month long Tournament, which got started last Thursday, January 15th, at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.

Thursday’s opening saw the march past of teams, which was followed by addresses by sports officials and Ministers of Education and Sports.

The players were urged, among other things, to exercise discipline throughout the Tournament and show respect for their rivals and officials.

The young women were also urged to strike a balance between their school work and sports, since a combination of the three previously mentioned elements are the recipe for access and success in the ever widening regional and international sports market.

The Tournament is expected to come to a close on February 13th. (JJ)
