Two Vincentians in Windwards Under-15 Cricket Team

Two Vincentians have been selected to the Windwards Under-15 team for next year’s West Indies Tournament set for Guyana in April.{{more}}

The two are all rounder Kadier Nedd and right arm fast bowler Shaquille Browne.

The team was announced last Wednesday night at the Lions Den in Kingstown at the Closing and Presentation Ceremony of the Windwards Competition, which concluded here earlier that same day.

Making up the other members of the 14 member squad are five selectees from the champion team Grenada, four Dominicans and three St. Lucians.

Keone George, Joel Bernard, Nikiosi St. Hillaire, Chris Greenidge and Preston Mc Sween from Grenada, Darius Philips, Dylan Joseph, Jerlani Robinson and Briel Thomas, from Dominica, and from St. Lucia, Junior Alfred, Vidal Crandon and Larry Edwards.

Four reserves were named in Vincentians Zimron Providence and Kenneth Dember, as well as Canis Richardson, of St. Lucia, and Hollis Blair, of Grenada.

But it will not be the usual easy going for the selectees, as there will be monitoring of their training programme in the individual territories, prior to the Guyana trip.

Chief Executive Officer of the Windward Islands Cricket Board of Control, Vincentian Lennox John, gave the young players a stern warning, telling them that they will be required to adhere to a training regimen that will ensure that they go to the regional tournament, mentally and physically prepared.

He said this has become necessary, since it was revealed that the several members of the Windwards senior team to the West Indies Limited overs competition in Guyana in November, were not physically and mentally ready for such a competition.

The Windwards Under-15, like the Under-19, and the senior teams, has not been performing well at the regional level in recent times.

Also speaking at last Wednesday’s ceremony were President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association, Julian Jack, and Minister of Sports, Mike Browne. (RT)
