North Leeward Cricketers and Footballers awarded

Last Sunday, cricketers and footballers from throughout the North Leeward area gathered at the Beach Front Restaurant for the North Leeward Sports Association (NLSA) 2008 trophy and prize award ceremony.{{more}}

In the Vinlec cricket competitions, which has been sponsored by the energy giant for the past nine years, team Somerset, of Fitzhughes, won the 20/20 competition, with Kevin Small taking the most wickets and Nelson Williams awarded for the most runs; Dale Michael won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

In the 50 overs tournament, Reginald Jeffery took the most wickets, Elroy Lewis made the most runs, while Reginald Jeffery was voted MVP. Team Ajuba, of Spring Village, was the winner.

The football competition was sponsored by Ruddy’s Electrical, and before the ceremonies began, CEO Ruddy Daize told SEARCHLIGHT that his personal preference in sports is cricket, but when he was approached by the NLSA to sponsor the football competition, he was quite happy to do it. Daize said that as long as he can afford to, he will continue to be the major underwriter of the event, as he had increased the sponsorship over last year’s and will make a further increase next year.

The Tromouca Ontario Secondary School (TOSS) won the Under 17 tournament, with Stone Love Boyz placing second; Shandell Samuel, of Courts Snipers, scored the most goals and was also awarded best striker and MVP in the league tournament.

Courts Snipers won the Knock out and League tournaments. P Boys Revelation was judged the most disciplined team. They also placed second in the knock out, while Dr Thompson’s Connection and Predators placed second and third, respectively, in the League tournament.
