St. George, North Leeward share U-19 Zonal Cricket title

It was a rare outcome as the title of zonal under-19 champions had to be shared between North Leeward and St. George, after the final ended in a no decision at the Sion Hill Playing Field last Sunday.{{more}}

St. George fielding ten players batted first and scored 157, with Atticus Browne leading the way with 60. Mikhail Weekes chipped in with 17. Kenneth Dember and Kenroy Lewis both bagged 3 for 16, bowling for North Leeward.

In reply, North Leeward was 11 for one, from seven overs, when heavy rains descended on the venue and organizers decided to share the spoils.

St. George, the day before easily beat Central Windward by 106 runs. Led by 40 Extras, Browne’s 39, and 29 from Afram Byam, St. George made 170, then dismissed Central Windward for 64. Deron Greaves, 3 for 15, and Richie Richards, 3 for 30, were the top bowlers for Central Windward.

Zane Edwards, 3 for 15, Ray Charles, 2 for 11, and Gabriel Kirby, 2 for 15, shared the bowling honours for St. George.

The joint champions, and other winners of all competitions, under the auspices of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association, will be rewarded when the local governing body annual prize giving ceremony comes off December 12. (RT)
