B Block upstages Combined Block
The title of Football champions of the Inter Correctional Games has been taken by B Block.
B Block handed Combined Block a 3-1 defeat in the Final played at the Victoria Park, last Tuesday.{{more}}
Former national Under-17 and Under-20 players, Whitney Williams, Dexter Brewster and Fitz-Allen Bramble each netted a goal for the newly crowned champion. Jeremy Laborde scored the lone goal for Combined Block.
In the third place play off which preceded the Final, Chapel outplayed last yearâs winner, Associated, 4-1.
There was a brace each from the talented left footer Joel Marquis. Also scoring two goals was Romell Baptiste. The consolation goal for Associated was scored by Edson Maloney.
Marquis, last yearâs Most Valuable Player, was this yearâs top goal scorer with seven goals.
Mondel Ellis, of losing finalists Combined Block, was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper.
The title of the competitionâs MVP went to Bramble, another former national Under-17 player.
Forty-nine goals were netted in the eleven matches that were contested.
In other disciplines, B Block bossed the Table Tennis competition, with Associated pouching the Softball Cricket segment.
The females were not left out as they were involved in some Netball action at the Kingstown Netball Centre.
The Inter Correctional Games was organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Education, in conjunction with the authorities at Her Majestyâs Prisons.
This was the third year that the Games has been staged. It now forms part of the institutionâs rehabilitation programme.
The inaugural games in 2006 ended prematurely. (RT)
