SVGTTA to address membership matters
The executive of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association is embarking on a membership drive.{{more}}
The Association, in a release last week, stated that following the submission of the auditors report on the Associationâs accounts from 2005 to April 2007 and the completion of revision of the constitution, they had embarked on a membership registration drive.
The issue of membership surfaced several times, including the most recent elections of the current Executive in May last year.
According to the release, â…the Association is presently accepting registration applications for clubs; associate members and junior members.â
The Executive is requesting membership from active table tennis players and enthusiasts of the sport.
The Association, under current president, Alonzo Primus, has sought to get a firm constitution in place.
This was after at least three constitutions have surfaced at previous annual general meetings, including a copy that dates back to 1971.
Primus, elected as the first vice president last year, took over at the start of the year, after then president Sean Stanley tendered his resignation.
Stanley claimed that the time had come for him to take a break so he could re-organise his personal life.
This country has been invited to field a team to participate in the OECS table tennis championship, to be held in St. Lucia from November 14 to 17. St. Vincent and the Grenadines is the defending champion.
To this end, the Associationâs Executive will be conducting coaching and preparatory sessions for playoffs and final selection of the team every afternoon by the team of Cuban trained Carlton Daniel, Robert Ballantyne and Elliott Charles, at the Old Government Printery Building.
The Association recently undertook to give the building a clean up, while at the same time, seeking another venue to ensure that the sport has a home base.
Recently, too, the Association was the recipient of a table tennis board from a resident of the island of Mustique.
The Association said that the donation of the board came in opportune time as it will serve well in the Grass Roots Talent Identification Programme. (RT)
