Lerissa powers NSU into Finals

Lerissa Morris, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ ace Ladies Tennis player, powered her University Ladies Tennis Team into the Finals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championship, but could not repeat the performance to get them to win the Championship. This took place last weekend in Raliegh, North Carolina.{{more}}

In the semi-final match, Norfolk State University was locked at 3-3 with Hampton University which had beaten them earlier in the season. With Lerissa playing the deciding match, she lost the first set 6-4 but turned the tables in the second set, winning by the same margin. In the third and deciding set, Lerissa was losing 3-1, but after an injury break and with all of the women’s and men’s team members urging her on, she went on to win the next five games to take the set 6-3. The win by Lerissa meant that NSU had upset the Northern Division top seed Hampton to reach their first ever championship final at the NCAA Division 1 Level.

In the finals, South Carolina State University defeated NSU, 4-0, to win their fourth Consecutive Championship. For her efforts in the Championship, Lerissa and her teammate Ashlee Daugherty were named to the all Tournament Team at numbers four and six singles, respectively.

Morris was elated with the fact that she was part of the team that enabled her University to reach the finals of the Championship for the first time.

Meanwhile, Lerissa was named on the MEAC Commissioner’s all Academic Team for 2008.
