Shot Callers rebound

Defending Male Division champion of the ASCO Softball Competition, Shot Callers resumed their winning ways last weekend, when they beat ASCO 2, but it was all but convincing.{{more}}

Shot Callers posted 101 for 8, in 20 overs. Gregory Richards, 20, Newborn Joseph, 19, and Terrance Patterson, 15, not out, were the main contributors to their total. Marcus Mc Fee took 2 for 22, bowling for ASCO 2, who then was dismissed for 87 in 18.1 overs. Nicos Davis and Nicholas Holder both hit 14, as Raffique Williams, 4 for 25, Daron Henry, 2 for 13, and Dave Conliffe, 2 for 2, put back Shot Callers as title hopefuls.

Also in the Male Division, ASCO whipped Kayous by 117 runs. ASCO made 157 all out in 18 overs, led by Osbourne Franklyn’s 48, Andre Hunte, 29, and Norlan Williams, 16. Ronald Medford took 3 for 12 and Roy Holder 3 for 9, as they shared the bowling honours for Kayous.

At their turn, Kayous was shot out for 40 in 12.5 overs. National cricketer Williams had figures 3 for 9 and Franklyn, 2 for 7, to put ASCO in control.

The two Female Division encounters saw wins for United Survivors and Zees and Sons ASCO.

Last year’s female division winner United Survivors eluded RSVG Police by 10 wickets. The law officers could only make 47. Esther Nanton was the topscorer with 15, as Jeanatta Diamond bagged 5 for 11, and Synthilia Ryan, 2 for 2. In response, United Survivors reached their target without any hiccups. National players Samantha Lynch and Shavorn Clarke made 21 and 12, respectively.

Zees Construction ASCO beat Clinchers by nine wickets. Clinchers was shot out for 33 in 7.1 overs. Amanda Thorpe, 6 for 8, including a hat trick, and Abigail Edwards, 2 for 12. Another national player Juliana Nero made 22 not out, as ASCO crossed the line at 34 for 1.

The Dauphine Playing Field will be in focus this weekend, when the competition continues.

On Saturday from 1:pm, Zees and Sons ASCO meets Good News in the Female Division, followed by Survivors and Unda Dogs from 3:15 in the Male Division.

On Sunday, Simple Boys plays Progressive Youths from 9:30 am as the Male Division continues. From 1:00 pm, COW Williams Cow Girls plays United Survivors from 1:00pm. COW Williams Cowboys meets ASCO 2 from 3:15 pm in the feature match. (RT)
