Belair Softball goes to Nex Level

Vincom Nex Level secured the title of league champion of the National Lotteries Top Belair Softball Cricket Competition last Saturday afternoon at the Dauphine Playing Field, when they beat Nice Radio Pine Hill Dairy Clinchers.{{more}}

Nex Level got their first hold on the trophy on a faster scoring rate after 10 overs. Nex Level was 61 for 4, in the 13th over, when a heavy shower delayed proceedings.

But after 10 overs, Clinchers had scored 47 runs. Comparatively, Nex Level scored their 47 runs off 8 overs, thus handing them the $2100 cash prize that was at stake for the winner. Nex Level was chasing 126 for victory.

Batting first, Clinchers made 125 for 5 in their 20 overs. The top performer of the competition, Dill Clarke, topscored with 33, and Hyron Shallow chipped in with 20. Jamal Ash of Nex Level, with 1 for 13, and 16 not out was named Player of the Final.

Preceding the grand finale, Simple Boys took the third position, with a 34-run triumph over Owia Shottaz.

Simple Boys posted 117 off 17 overs. Lex Bute and Calvert Simon both made 26. Gideon Farrell, 3 for 28 and Roland Baptiste, 3 for 24, were Shottaz main wicket takers. Shottaz, in reply, stalled at 83 in 17.1 overs. Leon Lorraine hit 21. Elroy Morris bagged 5 for 17, bowling for Simple Boys.

Shawn Frank of Street Fighters was the highest wicket taker in the competition. He had 18 scalps.

Renrick Cato cashed in on the award for the highest aggregate in the competition, 236 runs. He and Shallow were the two centurions in the competition.

CGM Novice won the Knock Out version of the league.(RT)
