SVGFF names executive – Leacock not on committee

The five committee members needed to complete the Executive of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation have been elected, but former President St. Clair Leacock is not one of them.{{more}}

The election of the five was done at a meeting of affiliates last Saturday at Football House.

Leacock, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT just prior to the October 20, Annual General Meeting of the SVGFF, at which elections for a new executive were held, stated boldly that in the event he lost, he was willing to serve on the Executive.

The former president attended last Saturday’s meeting, but left Football House when nominations for the committee members began.

When the ballots were cast by the fifty affiliates, twenty nine fewer than who were present at the October 20 meeting, the names of Jeffery Da Silva, Osbourne Bowens, Arnold Dalrymple, Wayne Peters and Larry Bascombe emerged ahead of their challengers.

Da Silva finished with 41 votes, Peters, 39, Dalrymple, 37, Bowens, 28, and Bascombe, 27. Peters and Bowens are the two new comers to national football service.

The others in the race were Foster Hannibald and former executive members Trevor Huggins, Clyde Robinson and Othneil Douglas.

Huggins, who served as Second Vice President under Leacock, mustered nine votes, while Robinson, the former third Vice President, recorded sixteen votes to his name. Douglas, who once served as a committee member, failed to retain his post, as his twenty four votes were not enough.

It was the third straight rejection at national football polls for Robinson. He lost in both attempts at the October 20 meeting, when he then unsuccessfully challenged for the posts of First and Third Vice President.

Apart from the election of the five committee members, last Saturday’s meeting also updated affiliates of the executive’s operations, through the President’s report.

Affiliates also gave the mandate to the Executive to select the auditors, who will perform such duties for the SVGFF.

The Federation’s Executive is yet to ratify the position of General Secretary. In accordance with the Constitution, this post, a full time one, should be an appointed by the said executive.

He or she should be the Chief Administration Officer of the Federation.

At present, Earl Bennett is acting in that position. He also was the holder of that post on the immediate past executive, but basically carried out the functions of recording and preparing /correspondence of the Federation, with other affiliate bodies.

Affiliates were also informed that some of the recommended changes to the Constitution are awaiting clearance from the world body, FIFA. (RT)
