Basketball bouncing in the north again!

After years of absence, Basketball returned to the North Central Windward town of Georgetown, last Sunday, November 3.{{more}}

The occasion, the commencement of the Windward Zone of the VINLEC 2007 National Zonal Basketball Club Championships.

The opening game saw Biabou All Stars meeting Kashie Angels of North Union.

The highly competitive match saw both teams tied at 53-53 at the end of regulation time.

Biabou All Stars eventually triumphed, 61-56, in over time play.

Matches are set for two venues: Biabou and Georgetown on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Nine teams are participating in the championship.

The championship finally got going after some initial hiccups relating to venues.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation provided the Windward zone with two Basketball Hoops at the Georgetown venue.

The Windward zone follows the Central Zone, which started last month. This zone is being contested at the New Montrose Hard court.

Next set to begin its operations is the East St. George Zone. That zone starts November 25 at the Calliaqua Hard Court, with added features.

The uprights at the Calliaqua Court are being replaced with collapsible glass uprights.

In addition, the uprights will be placed on the hard court at the VINLEC facility in Cumberland (Spring).
