Well done, Hector

Donwell Hector is the 2007 Senior Cricketer of the Year. Hector won the prestigious accolade when the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association held its Annual Presentation and Awards Ceremony, last week Friday night at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.{{more}}

The 18-year-old Richland Park resident got the nod over the other five cricketers who were in contention.

Hector, on the back of a dream year so far, made the adjudicators’ job easier.

At the local level, he was a key player in his team, Victors One. The right handed middle order batsman scored the highest individual score, 143 versus Spartans, in the RBTT Premier Division. His bowling was also an asset to Victors’ armoury.

Hector went on to score 125 for the Windwards against Barbados in the TCL Under-19 regional three day competition in St. Kitts, staged July and August.

And in his debut season at the Windwards senior level, Hector was the highest run scorer, totaling 284 runs, and was the lone centurion. Hector scored 130 versus eventual winner, Grenada. He also added two half centuries. Hector then marched into the Windwards senior team that played in the preliminary stage of the KFC Cup in Guyana.

Hector did not score heavily, was consistent with the bat, with some useful contributions.

He is anxiously looking forward to another call up for the Windwards in the Carib Cup regional four day competition, which starts next January.(RT)
