This momentous achievement in Yannick’s books came during the Boys Under 14 Singles Final of the Digicel ITF Junior Tennis Tournament played at the National Tennis Centre at Villa in St. Vincent and the Grenadines last week Saturday.

Wilson won the first set 6-1, and memories of all the past defeats came flooding back, as his father, former Saint Lucia, Grenada, and OECS player Glenn James watched from the stands.

However, with the fear of losing once again to his nemesis flooding through his body, young Yannick James composed himself winning the second and third sets 6-4 6-4, to take the first Boys Under 14 Singles Final in the inaugaral Digicel ITF Junior Tennis Tournament played in St. Vincent and the Grenadines October 19th – 27th, 2007, at the National Tennis Centre at Villa.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Wilson said that he played well but Yannick was just on top of his game today.

James for his part told the press that though he trained hard, there was not really a gameplan for the game. He pointed out that he had to adapt to the various strategies employed by Corey Wilson, and finally after many years of trying, the monkey was finally off his back, as he walked away with a well-deserved victory.
