The name Dawnley Grant continues to be heard loud and clear in cricketing circles here, and the decibels went up last week Friday night at the Methodist Church Hall, when he was named the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Youth Cricketer of the Year.{{more}}

Grant, a fiery fast bowler at age 18, has come off a good 2007 cricket season. The right-handed pacer was impressive at the Windwards Under-19 championship in St. Lucia. His efforts with the ball helped St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the retention of the title.

Grant moved on to the regional Under-19 competition, representing the Windwards, and again impressed. He took 16 wickets in the three-day competition, and scored 175 runs.

He was considered in the top two among the speedsters at that age group, in the St. Kitts sojourn.

The son of former St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windwards and West Indies A team opening batsman Dawnley Joseph, Grant was named among a 20-man West Indies squad for the Youth World Cup in Malaysia next year.

A member of the Spartans team in the local cricket competitions, Grant forced his way into the senior St. Vincent and the Grenadines team at the last Windwards tournament held here in September and October.

He was named in the Windwards provisional squad for the Carib Cup series next year.(RT)
