One thing is certain of the 2007 United Insurance Secondary Schools competition, neither finalist in last year’s competition will have an opportunity to lift this year’s title.

Following the failure of Mountain View Academy, last year’s winner, to make the quarter finals, last year’s losing finalist Emmanuel High School Mespo, meekly surrendered to the Georgetown Secondary in Wednesday’s elimination round.{{more}}

Georgetown advanced to the semifinals beating Emmanuel Mespo by 8 wickets.

Emmanuel Mespo scored 92, led by Oswald Soleyn’s 33. Westwick Strough 4 for 5 and national Under-19 left arm fast bowler Delorn Johnson 4 for 25 did the demolition job for Georgetown.

In reply, the North Central Windward institution reached 93 for 2, with Desron Lavia making 50 not out.

Also advancing to the semifinals were Barrouallie Secondary. A stroke filled century by Marcus John powered Barrouallie to 212. John struck 136. Jesse Isaacs 3 for 13, Malcolm Richards 3 for 57 and Mikhail Bradshaw 3 for 62 were St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua’s most successful bowlers.

St. Joseph’s Convent came in touching distance of that total reaching 200 all out.

Desron Maloney continued his rich form with 54, Bradshaw made 51 and Jamal Bradshaw 23. Rawle Stapleton 4 for 35 and Annilian Stephen 2 for 24 bowled their team to success.

Yesterday’s other two scheduled quarter final matches should have brought together Petit Bordel against Dr. JP Eustace Memorial and the St. Vincent Grammar School versus North Union.
