Team SVG Tennis out of the pre-qualifying competition

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) North/Central America & Caribbean pre-qualifying event of the 14 & Under World Junior Tennis competition concluded this weekend in Guatemala. The top-seeded host country maintained its regional ranking by defeating 3rd-seeded Costa Rica on Saturday to head the 13-team standings.

Guatemala will join Canada, Mexico and USA in the Final Qualifying event for North/Central America & Caribbean, to be held 4-6 May in Montreal, Canada.{{more}}

Team SVG posted one upset win by defeating Nicaragua and placing 3rd in Group 2. The team occupied the cellar position in the standings, but saw a good all-round performance by Number 1 seed Fabrice George who ended the competition with a 2-2 Win-Loss singles record featuring an upset win over Alberto Suriano of 5th seeded El Salvador.

Number 2 seed Daryl MacLeish posted commendable scores in losing efforts, while Number 3 seed Kevin Huggins teamed up with George to split doubles matches with a 1-1 Win/Loss record.

The final standings are: 1. Guatemala, 2. Costa Rica, 3. Puerto Rico, 4. Honduras, 5. Cuba, 6. El Salvador, 7. Bahamas, 8. Aruba, 9. Trinidad & Tobago, 10. Panama, 11. Dominican Republic, 12. Nicaragua, 13. St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
