Richland Park defeats Spring Village to take championship

For the second year running, the Richland Park Government School has won the Primary Schools’ netball competition.

The young netballers from the Marriaqua Valley brought another moment of glory to their institution when they triumphed 31-21 over Spring Village Government in the final played last Wednesday at the Kingstown Netball Centre (KNC).{{more}}

The champion school stepped up in the second quarter to lead 14-11, after the first quarter ended 5-5.

Richland Park extended their margin at the end of the third quarter 23-16 in the ascendancy.

And they owe much of their victory to their captain and ace shooter Cassica Cordice. She was in the pick of form scoring 23 of her 28 attempts.

The petite player, experienced in own right, is a fixture of the Pine Hill Dairy Nice Radio club that plays in the various competitions across the state.

Cordice left the KNC with a bounty of awards. She was voted the Most Valuable Player in the tournament and was the top shooter in the preliminary round as well as in the final.

A bright prospect, Cordice was voted the Most Promising Player at last year’s awards ceremony of the Marriaqua Netball Tournament.

Preceding Wednesday’s final, Layou Government secured the third spot when they beat Overland Government 13-8.

Twenty four schools divided into four zones participated in the tournament.
