Belfongo march into quarter finals

Belfongo became the first team to advance to the quarter finals of the National Masters Cricket Competition.

The defending champion completed their four match winning streak last weekend, when they beat Kingstown by 59 runs.{{more}}

Belfongo rattled up 176 for 6 in their 20 overs, led by Theodore Huggins’ 40 and Junior Bacchus 33. Bradley Brooker 2 for 31 recorded Kingstown’s best bowling figures.

A five wicket haul by Bacchus 5 for 23 and Aaron Bascombe 2 for 27, ensured that Kingstown were dismissed for 117.

While Belfongo booked their place, Sion Hill scaffolded their position with their third consecutive triumph. Sion Hill bowled out South Leeward for 83, with Albert Samuel leading his team’s bowling with 3 for 7, assisted by Andrew Bramble 2 for 17 and Ken Whyttle 2 for 18.

Sion Hill easily erased that total reaching 86 for 1. Colbert Sutherland topscored with 43.

But it was the first win for Richards Masters. Poor out cricket by Dasent Cottage enabled Richards Masters to tally 161 for 9, with extras contributing 57, Earl Abraham 29 and Jerry Shallow 27.

Bertram Baptiste 3 for 25 and Frederick Trimmingham 2 for 23 were Dasent Cottage’s successful bowlers.

Dasent Cottage were bowled out for 106. Patmos Richards 4 for 22 crafted his team’s first points.

Police continue to find the going tough. They lost to South Leeward by six wickets. Police posted 130 all out. Garvin Charles 3 for 9 and Glenroy Cordice 3 for 16 checked Police’s batting progress.

At their turn, South Leeward made 132 for 4. Winston Cordice 37 and Robert Jones 30 not out were the architects of South Leeward’s successful response.

Likewise, Stubbs took charge over Arnos Vale. Stubbs made 120 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Christopher Campbell continuing his all round performance made 39 and Darnley Joseph 27. Eddie Hadaway 2 for 33 was Arnos Vale’s main wicket taker.

Batting second Arnos Vale stopped at 93 for 7. Pat Warner’s 26 was their lone batting spark as Theophilus Wallace helped himself to 3 for 11.

In a clash of two teams from the Leeward side of the island, Cool Masters beat Barrouallie by 17 runs. Cool Masters 126, of which Kenrick Lewis made 31. Rozendale Francis 3 for 27, along with two wickets each by Noel Samuel, Owen Williams and Chester Hendrickson.

Lewis capped off a good match with 3 for 20 and Collin Shoy 3 for 12, navigated Cool Masters to victory as Barrouallie were restricted to 109 for 9.

Kendol Douglas made 24 in a losing cause.

And in a low scoring match, North Windward were shot out for 56. Adolphus Campbell 5 for 6, Clayton Burgin 2 for 12 and Austin Douglas 2 for 25 shared the bowling honours for P’tani Masters.

Jerome Samuel 24 not out and Augustus Mofford 22 not out saw P’tani home at 57 without loss.

A Sixes Competition takes place this Saturday and Sunday at the Grammar School Playing Field, as regular league matches take a break.
