Belfongo on course in masters cricket tourney

Belfongo have made it two in a row as they go in defence of the National Masters cricket title.

The defending champions beat North Windward by 19 runs last weekend at London.

Belfongo made 148 for 8 from their 20 overs. Aaron Bascombe top scored with 36 not out.{{more}}

The successful bowlers for North Windward were Ashford Lorraine 3 for 24 and Alphonso Cato 2 for 31. North Windward were bowled out for 129. Lauron Baptiste hit 48 and Brendon Child 29, as Bascombe capped off a good match with 3 for 12 and Alphonso Morgan 2 for 15.

Also recording a victory in last weekend’s second round action were Sion Hill.

In their first on the field showing after their first match was rained out, Sion Hill dismissed Barrouallie for 118 in 17.2 overs. Dougal James 3 for 23, Andrew Bramble 2 for 23 and Monty Sealey combined their bowling efforts, aided by good wicket keeping by Joseph Carrington who had four stumpings and one catch.

Sion Hill responded with 120 for 6 in 17 overs. Extras made a healthy contribution of 36.

Ajuba made light work of South Leeward. Reginald Jeffery 3 for 13 and Kin Federal 3 for 12 skittled out a depleted South Leeward for 27. Ajuba scored 31 for 2.

Joining the winners’ circle were RSVG Police who defeated Central Leeward by 40 runs. Elvis Browne (54) and Allan John (45) helped Police to 126 for 4 in their 20 overs. Central Leeward were restricted to 86 for 8 off their 20 overs. Browne had figures of 3 for 4 and Sam Francis 3 for 6, put the handcuffs on Central Leeward’s run chase.

Arnos Vale rebounded from their loss the previous weekend to beat Richards Masters. Arnos Vale chalked up 204 for 3 in their 20 overs allotment. Ted Roberts hit 56, Lynton Greaves 54 not out and Monty Warner 51, chartered Arnos Vale’s innings. Richards Master could only reach 124 for 7. Shelford Stowe was their batting spark with 36.

It was a similar convincing win for Stubbs against Dasent Cottage. Fielding seven players Dasent Cottage made 55. Stubbs replied with 58 for 1.

And in a clash of the heavyweights, Kingstown came out victorious against P’tani Masters. Walford Ambris retired for 49 and Alfred Mc Kenzie 23 led P’tani to 113 for 7. Kinstown responded with 114 for 3. Terry Williams hit 73 not out and Jeff Trotman 23.

Another round of matches is set for this weekend.
